Help us to help adoptive families thrive - become a trustee

We are looking for three exceptional volunteers to join Adoption UK's Board of Trustees

Adoption UK is the leading charity providing support, community, and advocacy for all those parenting or supporting children who cannot live with their birth parents. Our purpose is to secure the right support at the right time for the children at the heart of every adoptive and kinship care family.

As a Trustee, you'll have the opportunity to apply your unique skills and experience within our welcoming and dedicated Board. You'll use your passionate commitment to ensuring adoptive families have a brighter future to oversee the implementation of our strategy.

Our new trustees will help us to ensure we fully represent the range of racial diversity in the adoption community, as well as the voice of adopted people. We are prioritising applicants who can add to the Board's skills in business, campaigning, organisational development, HR, and social work.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the implementation of Adoption UK's strategy.
  • Support the senior leadership team, adding value and expert advice.
  • Facilitate change that promotes the care and welfare of potential and existing adoptive and kinship care children and their families.
  • Support the organisation to advance the education of the public regarding all aspects of adoption.
  • Ensure the charity remains true to its purpose.

The Board of trustees meets four times a year. The annual time commitment is 5 days, plus preparation and reading time, with opportunities for deeper involvement in relevant areas of the charity's work. You will be invited to Adoption UK events and the annual conference. The role is not remunerated but travel and expenses are paid.

We are committed to being an inclusive charity, and we welcome and encourage applications from all sections of the community. As a UK wide charity, we aim to have representation from all constituent nations.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect everyone working with us to share this commitment.
