Reporting to: Chair of Trustees
Remuneration: No salary; all reasonable travel and out of pocket expenses will be covered
Time commitment: 5 trustee meetings + 3 hrs per month (there will likely be more commitment in the first year of operations)
Start Date: September 2019

Our Second Home is looking to register as a charity. As such, we are recruiting a Board of Trustees to help
navigate us through this exciting challenge and our future projects.

We empower migrants and refugees to flourish in the place that they call home. Through transformative
experiences, including residential activities, we create community and build leaders.

There are thousands of young refugees and migrants arriving in this country every year. We believe in the
unbounded potential of these individuals and are driven to help them thrive.

Our residential camps are at the start of this journey, allowing us to create a space where we can teach
leadership skills and spark ideas. With the right support, our ambition is to ensure that young refugees and
migrants can take control of their own lives.

The Board of Trustees has overall legal and financial responsibility for the direction and management of Our
Second Home. As both the trustees of our charitable organisation and directors of the associated company,
the board is collectively accountable for compliance with charity law, company law and other legislative and
regulatory requirements. The Trustee position therefore carries legal duties and responsibilities.

The Chair and Trustees have overall responsibility for the strategic and financial management of Our Second
Home. The day-to-day operations are conducted by Our Second Home's staff and volunteers under the
overall leadership and supervision of the Trustees, who oversee our affairs and funds and give ultimate
direction to our activities.

We endeavour that our Trustees come from a diverse range of backgrounds and we are looking to bring
together individuals with different skills and experience to provide guidance and leadership for the
organisation, and further understanding of the impact of our work. For this reason, we are looking to have a
Service User Voice Trustee who comes from a refugee background, however this is not to limit any other roles
from being filled by someone with lived experience of being a refugee. Trustees must support the aims and
values of the Charity.

Board meetings take place five times a year in London however on an occasional basis arrangements can be
made for Skype and teleconference facilities. There will be staggered terms for this founding Board of
Trustees, with 3 trustees on 2-year terms, and 3 on 3-year terms.

Responsibilities & Expectations
We expect Trustees to contribute actively to the Board by setting and maintaining strategic direction; setting
overall policy; defining goals and setting targets; ensuring the charity's effective and efficient administration
and financial stability; ensuring compliance with the law; fundraising, evaluating performance; and promotion
of Our Second Home.

We require a commitment to Our Second Home's mission and an understanding of the role of the organisation. We also require financial awareness, commitment to collaborative working, strong communication skills, sensitive interpersonal skills, and problem solving and analysis.

Previous experience as a Trustee is an advantage, but not necessary.
