Oxford Research Group (ORG) expects to appoint additional Trustees in the second half of 2018. Our initial focus is on recruiting a trustee with specific skills and experience in human resources management. Trustees are company directors and members of the Board of Trustees. They serve three-year terms, renewable.
Oxford Research Group (ORG) is an independent peace, security and conflict resolution NGO that has been active and influential since the early 1980s. Since 2006 we have been based in London. In mid-2018 we have a staff of ten plus two part-time paid interns, three pro bono and several paid consultants.
ORG's mission is to promote approaches to defence, development and foreign policies that are inclusive, accountable, sustainable and effective. We thus work to transform the way that people and policy-makers think about security, shifting to long-term, strategic measures to sustain peace. We call this breaking out of the cycle of conflict.
Our work is rigorous, realistic, and evidence-based. It is rooted in the four pillars of research, advocacy, capacity-building and dialogue. The main focus of our work is the UK, and to a lesser extent NATO, the UN and countries where British foreign and security policies are most closely intertwined with violent conflicts, not least the Middle East and North Africa.
ORG is a registered charity, governed by a Board of Trustees, and a company limited by guarantee.
Knowledge, Skills and Expertise Sought
We have identified the key skills, experience and knowledge we would like to have in our Board. In addition to a commitment to the aims and values of ORG and interest in our work, in 2018 we are particularly looking for individuals with the following:
- Experience of NGO/charity governance, either as Trustee or senior management
- Human resources management skills and experience.
Please see the attached Terms of Reference for more details on the role.
No payment is made to Trustees but Board members requesting reimbursement of travel expenses will be paid against receipts.
Board meetings are held quarterly in March, June, September (including AGM) and November or December. All board meetings are held in London and Trustees should be available to attend in person. Meetings normally last three hours, preceded by an informal lunch with all ORG staff members.
How to Apply
If you would like to apply please email a brief covering letter and supporting CV to the Company Secretary email@example.com by 16 August 2018.
All applications will be reviewed and those short-listed will be interviewed by a sub-committee of the Board including the Chair and the Chief Executive. One or more candidates may be invited to the 18 September meeting of the Board of Trustees.
If you would like to discuss an application informally, please contact the ORG Chief Executive firstname.lastname@example.org
