We offer a Trustee position with opportunities to get actively involved in conservation.
The African Conservation Foundation (ACF) is working towards the protection and conservation of Africa's endangered wildlife and their habitats. Our goal is not to become 'the leading African conservation organisation' but to develop and support African conservation (preferably local-led) projects, providing training, building and increasing local capacity for conservation - in order to let them become leading conservation initiatives in Africa.
In order to maximise the amount of funds that go directly towards its mission and its projects, ACF does not have a head office and/or paid administrative staff in Europe. The organisation is run by a Board of Directors who are currently both managing the website platform (including the news magazine, volunteer programme, job section etc.) and provides country offices and partner projects with managerial and technical support. ACF also has trustees and volunteers who assist in maintaining and developing the organisation.
At a strategically important time, as we seek to retain and build upon our projects and activities in Africa, we are seeking one or two new Trustees. We wish to appoint Trustees who will support the Directors to shape and strengthen ACF's strategy through knowledge, experience, networking, marketing and fundraising, in accordance with its charitable aims and to secure its long-term sustainability.
We are looking for individuals with strategic and governance experience and a passion for conservation. We are particularly looking for individuals with a background in the financial or conservation sector, ideally with experience in fundraising, marketing, communication or business management, but we are also open to individuals with other experience relevant to our work. An understanding of Charity regulations is desirable. A passion for conservation is important as well as strong (ambassadorial) skills to work with a wide range of stakeholders.
The main Trustee duties will involve (1) assisting with development of strategic aims, (2) assisting with the development of new fundraising and project opportunities, (3) ensure policies and practices are keeping in line with the organisation's aims and objectives, (4) ensuring good practice, reviewing strategy and keeping the charity in line with its legal and financial responsibilities.
This is a voluntary position where reasonable expenses are reimbursable.
