APPOINTMENT OF A TRUSTEE TO THE BOARD OF INTERNATIONAL ALERT

International Alert (Alert), one of the world’s leading peacebuilding organisations, with over 30 years of experience laying the foundations for peace, is currently seeking a talented and accomplished trustee to join our Board.

We work with local communities in over 20 countries from Lebanon to Colombia to help them build peace. We empower local people to build peace by providing them with training, advice and support. We bring together communities divided by conflict to find ways of resolving their differences without violence. And we advise companies, governments and international organisations on how their policies and operations can better support peace.

Our three-part mission is to build a more peaceful world by: • Working with people directly affected by conflict to find peaceful solutions; • Shaping policies and practices to support peace; and • Collaborating with all those striving for peace to strengthen our collective voice and impact. We focus on the issues that influence peace such community relations, gender, the role of businesses, climate change and ways to prevent crime and counter violent extremism.

Trustee

We are currently recruiting a Trustee to join Alert’s Board. A peacebuilding background is desirable but not essential. In addition, Trustees will have strategic vision, combined with good, independent judgment and an ability to work effectively as a member of a team, supporting the staff.

Trustee positions are non-executive and remunerated on an expenses only basis. We welcome applications from around the world.

We strongly encourage applications from women and ethnic minorities, with expertise on the African continent, who are currently under-represented on Alert’s board.

For the full terms of reference, please visit http://www.international-alert.org/jobs. For further information about these roles, please contact Karim Hassan khassan@internationalalert.org.

Applicants are asked to submit a CV and covering letter by 17th March 2017 to boardvacancies@international-alert.org

We value diversity at TPP and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
