Treasurer of the UK’s leading multiple sclerosis charity

The MS Society is seeking a new Treasurer who will play a key role in the financial oversight of the charity and challenge us to be even better - as we fund ground-breaking research into the causes and treatment of MS whilst at the same time supporting people with MS here and now.

There are 100,000 people with MS in the UK.  We are the largest charity supporting them, and the largest funder of MS research in the UK.  We are currently funding 80 world-class research projects costing around £15 million, and intend to significantly increase this investment over the next few years as we look to fund more ground-breaking research.

We have changed significantly over the last few years and will continue to change to ensure that our work is having the greatest possible impact. We win awards for the information we provide to people with MS, to ensure they are as informed as possible about MS.  We provide support, nationally and locally, to people affected by MS. We have over 270 branches and support groups, around 260 staff and the dedicated support of thousands of volunteers.

We’re now seeking a Treasurer with the right personal qualities and necessary Board level experience to focus the Board on its financial responsibilities whilst at the same time ensuring that our finances support our mission and aren’t an end in themselves. We will need you to share our values, and be prepared to commit the energy and time (10-12 days pa) needed to do a great job.

Applications from people with or affected by MS are particularly welcomed, though it’s your empathy that is more important than your personal connection.  We welcome enquiries from everyone and value diversity in our workforceWe welcome enquiries from everyone and value diversity in our workforceWe are committed to equality of opportunity and a diverse Board of Trustees. We welcome applications from people with the right skills and experience regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief. Applications from across the UK are encouraged and expenses are paid - where you live does not affect whether you would be a good Treasurer.

The deadline for completed applications is Friday 2nd September and interviews are on Monday 12th September.
