AVID is looking to recruit a Treasurer - to support the work of our small, national charity based in East London.
AVID is the national support organisation working with volunteer visitors groups across the UK. We support 16 member organisations, who in turn coordinate the volunteering of over 600 individuals in every single detention centre and residential short term holding facility in the country.
Immigration detention is one of the greatest stains on our human rights record, and for 25 years AVID has worked directly with those held, and the community groups that support them. We've established new groups as new centres have opened, helped existing groups with capacity building, funding, training and volunteer recruitment. We've helped ensure access for visitors groups in places of detention, and successfully lobbied on behalf of all those detained for better treatment and conditions. We are also actively involved in the movement for detention reform as part of the Detention Forum.
This is an exciting time in our development and we are looking for a Treasurer with the skills and experience to help support the work of our organisation. In addition to having a sympathy with our objectives, and an interest in support people in detention, we are looking for someone with experience of serving on a Board before, or who have (for example) particular skills in fundraising/grants management, charity governance, and financial management. We would be particularly pleased to hear from anyone with personal experience of being in detention or who has been through the asylum process.
Applications are invited by CV and covering letter stating how your interest, skills and experience would be of benefit to AVID. The closing date for applications is 4th March 2019.
The client is dealing with this directly, so the full details of how to apply and the role description for Treasurer are available here.
