Freedom from Torture is the only organisation in the UK dedicated solely to the treatment of survivors of torture. Each year, across our 5 therapy and treatment centres, we work with almost 1000 torture survivors and their families. Our staff and volunteers combine expertise with passion and dedication to provide psychological therapies, medico-legal reports, welfare and legal advice and practical support, enabling torture survivors to rebuild their lives and their sense of self.

We are especially proud of our survivor activism programme which is leading the way internationally in amplifying the voice of torture survivors and making sure they are central to the prevention of torture and protection of survivors.

As a Trustee, you will be joining at an exciting time with our new CEO leading us forward under a new strategy. This is an opportunity to help shape and steer Freedom from Torture, and to support and make a real difference to our clients, staff and volunteers.

Vacancies:

  • Treasurer: you need to be a qualified accountant with experience in financial management and controls including audit and risk in a charity context. The successful appointee will chair our Finance Committee
  • Policy: significant track record in international human rights and/or international relations (with experience of delivering policy impact
  • Clinical: a qualified clinician with a significant track record in providing therapy and rehabilitation services for survivors of torture or those who have experienced a combination of complex trauma and extreme socio economic and/or legal marginalisation

We would be delighted to hear from you if you share our passion for our work, understand the issues facing torture survivors and have a deep commitment to human rights.
