A leading tax focused professional membership body is seeking an experienced Technical Officer for a new role. The role will involve reviewing and replying to HMRC with information responding to consultations, as well as report writing and delivering presentations on tax issues to members and the wider tax community. The role would particularly suit candidates with an interest in the digitisation of the tax system.
Duties will involve:
-In conjunction with the organisation’s Technical Steering Group (TSG) identify consultative documents and other issues that the organisation should respond to
-Attending meetings with HMRC and circulation of responses to members
-Responding to consultation documents including attending meetings with HMRC and gathering views of members
-Present detailed information on findings and updates at external conferences
-Constant liaison and dialogue with members, HMRC, Members of Parliament and the wider tax community about tax updates and consultation findings
The successful candidate will:
-ATT or CTA qualified
-Be a highly organised person with considerable practical experience of tax work – this could have been gained in either the public or private sector
-Have a wide general understanding of UK taxes and a detailed technical knowledge of one or more broad areas of tax
-Have an understanding of current developments and significant changes in the tax landscape including HMRC’s Making Tax Digital project
-Have exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal and be able to gain credibility with stakeholders and trustees
-Have experience of or be able to demonstrate an aptitude for technical writing such as responding to consultation documents, drafting submissions and writing articles for both print and web.
-Have excellent time management skills
-Be confident and comfortable presenting information
