A diocese in the southeast of the UK is hiring for a Schools Officer to lead on the strategy for their Board of Education in relation to expanding church school provision and caring for the environment. This is a full-time role offering flexible hybrid working arrangements.

As the Schools Officer, you will lead the Board of Education's work in identifying opportunities for new church schools, expanding existing schools and the creative use of school buildings for community provision. You will provide reports and advice to the Board with regard to church school estates and educational endowments, as well as provide support in educational legislation for church schools, site trustees and Academy Trusts, particularly in relation to their governing documents and the use or development of land and buildings.

Your duties will also involve overseeing the management of capital funding and building, maintenance, and energy efficiency projects in specified schools, leading on school organisation matters and maintain guidance materials, and representing the Board on property, finance and capital funding matters.

You will have the following skills and experience:

Relevant experience in an education, legal or property context; for example, in educational business or estates management, paralegal experience (or similar) within charity, education or property law, or in a role relating to commercial property
Demonstrable ability to apply legal principles or advice to projects/ tasks and explain potential outcomes to those with no specialist understanding
Experience of supporting organisational strategy and managing complex projects
Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, with the ability to establish strong, sensitive relationships at all levels
High level of self-motivation and ability to work autonomously and to deadlines
Forward thinking, adaptable and responsive to a varied work programme
Ability and willingness to travel to attend occasionally evening meetings/events
