A leading children’s charity is seeking a NEBOSH (or equivalent) qualified Health & Safety Adviser for a home-based role, with weekly travel to multiple sites across the north of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The role is offered initially on a 1 year fixed term basis.
The role will involve:
-Delivering holistic and expert professional competent safety, health, environment and wellbeing advice and guidance, in particular to senior managers to enable services their services to operate within legal requirements and best practice and aid with future business planning.
-Provide professional, expert and competent advice to directors, senior managers, project leads and supervisors covering safety, health, environment and wellbeing (SHEW) and food safety, in particular to business decision makers (including all aspects of business planning). Advising and promoting best practice to ensure practical cost-effective solutions are found and best value is delivered
-Ensuring a high quality of customer service through regular constant communication with internal customers achieved through site visits and audits to ensure a consistent high level of compliance.
-Manage and support the implementation of agreed strategies, including applying initiatives and approaches to support organisational change. Contributing to and leading on the development of corporate management standards, risk assessments and implementation plans.
-Auditing and monitoring of safety, health, environmental and wellbeing arrangements, reporting on areas of risk and identifying remedial action where required including the tracking of actions to completion.
-Undertaking Accident Investigations and contributing to Panels of Enquiries. This will include the identification of active and latent failures, root causes, identifying remedial actions and ensuring that any actions are effectively implemented.
-Membership of relevant professional body eg IOSH or IIRSM or IEMA
-NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent
-Experience in providing high quality professional and competent safety, health, environmental and wellbeing advice across a geographically dispersed organisation and at all levels of the organisation
-Experience of leading organisational wide campaigns and change programmes
-Excellent knowledge of health and safety legislation and environmental legislation
-Evidence of leading accident investigation and the production of high quality investigation reports.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to influence decision makers
The ideal candidate will be based in the North Midlands or the North-East of England as these regions have the highest concentration of sites. The role will involve working from home, with 2-3 days travel on-site every week. A car is preferred for this role but not essential.
