Research Executive - Temporary

The Development Researcher is responsible for identifying and researching potential donors, and for supporting their introduction, cultivation and stewardship to agreed procedures. You will be tasked with providing specialist prospect research and database services to Development and to other departments. You will play a key role in a dynamic and high achieving Development Department and work closely with fundraising and operations colleagues to deliver the fundraising strategy and cultivation activity, achieve targets and maximise income.

Role overview:

  • To pro-actively seek new prospects using a variety of sources for a range of Museum priority revenue and capital projects. Prospecting should be conducted across corporate, individuals and charitable trust sectors as well as other potential sources of income.
  • To work with the dedicated database manager to generate and present pipeline reports from a prospect research perspective.
  • To write profiles on selected current and prospective donors for fundraisers, other senior staff and fundraising volunteers including Trustees (including biographical and financial information).
  • To assist in the development of initial cultivation strategies and to support fundraisers in the ongoing cultivation of prospects.
  • Research and provide briefing notes for fundraisers on prospects attending cultivation meetings.
  • Research and provide briefing notes on guests attending cultivation, stewardship and fundraising events and to collate and disseminate feedback from events.
  • Ensure research is recorded effectively and clearly on the database (or in other relevant information retrieval systems) in line with agreed practice and in consultation with fundraisers.
  • Conduct third party reviews on prospective supporters for consideration by team heads and the third party engagement panel. Manage resources in this area and monitor new resources and trends.

Role Competences:

  • Degree or equivalent experience
  • Solid experience of research within a fundraising environment with excellent core prospect research skills and a demonstrable ability to analyse and synthesise large amounts of complex data effectively and efficiently
  • Proven skills of using a range of prospect research resources, online and desk-based and of employing a range of techniques and processes for capturing, managing, analysing and disseminating information
  • Broad understanding of the not-for-profit sector and fundraising environment and ability to translate this knowledge into opportunities for new areas of prospecting, and ultimately fundraising
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with tact and discretion and within the confines of relevant legislative and internal procedural requirements
  • Knowledge of data protection, freedom of information and other relevant legislation and its application in a fundraising environment
