The Research and Grants Officer supports the delivery of strategic objective 'to fund innovative, world-class mental health research'. Working within a small team, this involves: administering research grant awards, ensuring we meet the highest standards of charity grant funding; helping to design and deliver new funding programmes; incorporating meaningful public and patient engagement; and supporting strong relationships with the mental health research community and our funded researchers. The role also involves supporting innovative research recruit platform, Participate.
This role would suit someone with experience of delivering grants/programmes/schemes, experience of scoping and developing new programmes/schemes and managing databases and utilising online platforms.
Some of the key responsibilities:
Administer research grant programmes, maintaining robust operational processes, including: scheme promotion; eligibility checks; peer review; working with selection panels; preparation of committee papers; preparation of feedback and communication with applicants
Participate in research team business-planning, ensuring organisational objectives are met and identifying key human and other resource needs.
Maintaining good and collaborative relationships with funded researchers, Research Committee, funding panels, key contacts in stakeholder organisations and the wider research community
Ensure research activities comply with relevant grant policies and processes
Some of the key activities:
Support the scoping, design and delivery of new research funding programmes, as developed and agreed with the Research Committee.
Monitor the budgets for the research portfolio, in line with internal management systems, including contributing to regular forecasting and monitoring of expenditure.
Support any evaluation mechanisms to monitor the success of our funded research, i.e. Researchfish, AMRC and Europe PMC submissions.
Share updates and research findings to ensure that funded research supports communications and fundraising work.
Receive and review grant progress reports actively following up any queries and monitoring for any breach of conditions of award.
Receive claims, process and monitor spend on active grants, making bi-annual payments and reconcile any completed grants.
Produce high quality reports, including papers for Trustees, the Research Committee, and other internal and external audiences as required.
Produce materials for a variety of platforms (social media, newsletters/emails, blogs) that demonstrates the value of public engagement, helping to recruit and retain participants
Review and update the Research pages on the website.
Create quarterly newsletter and issuing to funded researchers.
To be successful in this role you will have:
Experience of delivering
Understanding of the UK grants management process
Experience of scoping and developing new programmes and schemes
Experience of managing databases and utilitisng online platforms
Experience of working with stakeholders and academics at a senior level
Sound understanding of the UK Academic environment
Experience of developing funding proposals and securing external funds
