TPP is currently working with a public university and is a member institution specialising in public health and tropical medicine. They are seeking to hire a Press Officer to join them on a permanent basis. Reporting into the Media Manager, you will be responsible for co-ordinating all of our client's media activities in order to boost their profile in line with their strategic goals and to protect its reputation. As an experienced media relations and communications professional, you'll be working on the day-to-day delivery of a high-quality media relations service, with responsibility for generating media coverage relating to our client's research output, world-leading scientists and teaching programme, and you will be liaising with journalists, staff and other key stakeholders

Your duties and responsibilities will include :

  • Generating national, international and trade media coverage by identifying, developing and pitching news stories.

  • Supporting academics to write accessible opinion-led blogs and expert reaction comments

  • Helping the team to develop innovative, striking and engaging digital and social media content

  • Supporting staff across the organisation with all aspects of media engagement

  • Forming strong working relationships with high-profile journalists, internal academics and external stakeholders

  • Liaising with journalists to secure interview opportunities, proactively and reactively

  • Managing and responding to media enquiries

Your knowledge, skillsets and experience will include :

  • An ability to communicate complex messages accurately and in a 'newsy' style for lay audiences, and develop 'story packages' that include press releases and social and digital media content

  • Experience of working in media or communications team within either within the not for profit or commercial sector, or agency side.

  • Experience of using social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn, in a business environment

  • Thorough understanding of the UK and global media landscape

  • Ability to prioritise, work to tight deadlines and cope well under pressure

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
