Position Title: Member of the Board of Directors (7 positions available)

Length of Term: 3 Years (with option for renewal)

Reports To: Entire Board of Directors

Duty Station: London currently remote

WYKEI is a new UK based Not-for-Profit aiming to empower Women, Youth & Kids through human rights, gender equality & conflict transformation education, research & entrepreneurship in the UK & Jerusalem. We aim to first work with the most vulnerable within society to the least vulnerable & believe that all youth, kids & women are vulnerable if they do not know about their rights. In Jerusalem it would be in a post-conflict/conflict setting where these initiatives are a priority to create a future sustainable peace & work towards sustainable development. In the UK we will work with the most vulnerable women, youth & kids that require empowerment, education & who are unemployed to the least vulnerable.

We need Board Members with senior knowledge of one or more of the following:

  • Finance, auditing & accounts specialist
  • Fundraising & partnerships specialist
  • Youth & Kids education & mentoring
  • Human Resources Management
  • Education, curriculum development & accreditation
  • International law or humanitarian law or human rights research expertise
  • Business/not-for-profit successful development

Board Role & Expectations

The role of board members is highly rewarding. The Board of Directors are responsible for the overall governance & strategic direction of WYKEI, developing its aims, objectives & goals in accordance with its governing documents, legal requirements & regulatory guidelines. The Board is collectively responsible for promoting the success of the community interest company by directing & supervising the CICs affairs. Its role is to provide leadership within a framework of prudent & effective controls which enable risk to be assessed & managed. Board Members are ambassadors for WYKEI & for our work, to that end they:

  • Determine how the organization will carry out its mission through long & short-range planning whilst contributing to setting WYKEI's strategic direction & priorities
  • Recruit, orient, & develop board members
  • Establish policies for the effective management of the organization, its staff & volunteers
  • Contribute actively to the board's work & decision-making
  • Represent WYKEI internally & externally
  • Strictly adhere to confidentiality policies
  • Engage in fundraising activities, plan/adopt annual budgets, oversee/report on fund used
  • Evaluate its performance & overall performance of the organization in achieving the mission whilst ensuring that WYKEI pursues its community interest objectives
  • Attend trustee board & committee meetings
  • Oversee WYKEI's activities, including risk management & management of the CICs resources
  • Contribute to setting WYKEI's strategic direction & priorities
  • Support & encourage volunteers, the executive team & their staff in their roles, whilst constructively challenging their advice & decisions
  • Strictly adhere to conflicts of interest policies

Induction & Support

Once appointed, Directors will be given an induction programme which will involve getting to know the organisation & becoming familiar with the role of Director if appropriate. You will also be offered regular meetings with the CEO and/or chair. Board Member Directors have an informal annual appraisal through which additional development & support can be agreed. Initial training in Human Rights if required, or other required training will be organized to empower the board members with the knowledge which will be used to empower beneficiaries.
