A disability charity in London is seeking a well-qualified Lead Health & Safety Advisor for a new permanent hire. The role will involve managing 3 members of staff, and will have responsibility for leading the strategic direction of the charity’s Health & Safety procedures, policies and compliance.

Main Duties:

-Develop, monitor and review health and safety policy and procedure.

-Ensure proactive engagement and support to all front line managers throughout the organisation in relation to Health and Safety queries and legislation.

-Encourage managers to implement a risk management framework with preventative and investigative systems, throughout the organisation.

-Plan and implement strategies that develop and maintain a pro-active H&S culture across the organisation.

-Advise on the H&S management system; ensuring it meets relevant standards and best practice guidelines and interfaces appropriately with quality management systems. Pro-actively manage any thirds parties involved in delivering components of the system.

-Carry out Health & Safety audits and monitoring systems across the organisation and ensure that all corrective actions are completed within necessary timescales.

-Actively promote workplace risk assessment programmes across the organisation on a systematic basis, including preparation and implementation where appropriate of generic assessments.

-Participate in Employee forum meetings and cross service groups to ensure a holistic and integrative approach to H&S management with particular reference to the rights and aspirations of those using the Services.

-Participate in networking and benchmarking opportunities to ensure ’best practice’ organisation from an HR point of view. 

Requirements:

-NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 4 in Occupational Health & Safety

-Understanding the needs and aspirations of disabled people, and associated Health & Safety issues

-Level 3 qualification in Food Safety

-NEBOSH Fires Safety certificate or equivalent

-Deep knowledge of Health & Safety issues and legislation

-Experience of implementing H&S in a charity or public organisation

-Line Management experience

-Experience dealing with H&S auditors and regulators

-Strong IT skills and experience presenting information to senior board members

This role will oversee Health & Safety in multiple sites, but will be permanently based at the charity’s headquarters in central London.
