This opportunity is directly with Amnesty International.
We are looking for expressions of interest from highly-qualified and motivated individuals with the required competencies and personal qualities needed to strengthen our International Board.
International Board members are elected to office for a three-year term with a maximum of two consecutive terms by the Global Assembly, Amnesty International's highest governance entity. If successful, you will join a team of International Board members who meet approximately four times per year, as well as attend some of the movement's key international meetings.
All members of the International Board are collectively responsible for the fulfilment of Amnesty International's mission and vision and for ensuring compliance with its global policies and standards.
They are also responsible for hiring and evaluating the performance of the Secretary General, providing oversight of the International Secretariat's operations and exercising fiduciary oversight of the budget.
Upon election, International Board members become Directors of AI Limited, a UK Company limited by guarantee, registered in England. Anyone accepting this role must therefore agree to, and be fully aware of, their legal duties and statutory responsibilities that go with this appointment.
You should be able to demonstrate relevant experience and competencies in one or two of the following areas:
- Leadership, vision, strategy and change
- Growth and activism
- Human rights
- Global awareness
- Movement awareness
- Global governance
- Human resources/ organization development
Moreover, from the moment you join us you will uphold the integrity of the organization and voluntarily commit to a code of professional conduct and the highest standards of Board leadership and excellence in governance.
You will have a good understanding of, and experience in, governance and possess the sound judgement needed to enable effective decision-making. You are adept at listening to others and able to build relationships with people based on trust and respect.
You have a good awareness of risk and know how to instil in others the confidence to act and drive the change that is necessary. Once elected, you will provide the leadership that will enable Amnesty International to fulfil its mandate and carry out its work.

ABOUT THE NOMINATIONS PROCESS

The deadline for the next round of nominations is 2nd May 2019. Members of the International Board will be elected at the Global Assembly in August 2019.
ALL candidates are required to complete a nominations form which must be submitted by the deadline by an Amnesty International nominating entity, or in exceptional circumstances the International Nominations Committee (INC). A list of country offices can be found here.
