Since 1985 Freedom from Torture has been the only UK human rights organization dedicated to treating and supporting torture survivors who seek refuge in the UK. We do this primarily through psychological therapies but also services which document torture forensically, practical legal and welfare support and creative groups in centres across the UK.

Thanks to the dedication of our staff and volunteers - as well as thousands of passionate supporters and funders - thousands of torture survivors have been able to rebuild their lives in incredibly difficult circumstances.

We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic volunteer to be part of our charity, who will help support our HR Team based in the London Centre. The HR Team provide a professional HR service to our 300 staff and volunteers across the UK Your role will be varied, assisting with the recruitment process, pre-employment checks and support in all aspects of HR and the employee lifecycle.

You will have a general standard of education and have experience of working within a confidential office environment. Due to the nature of the work we do, it is essential that you are aware of the data protection regulations and ideally have some knowledge of UK employment law.

You will be someone who has an eye for detail and is able to work in a methodical and organized manner, along with good verbal and written communication skills. This role will require you to be confident at using MS Word, Excel and Outlook and it would be a bonus if you also have experience of using databases.

In return for giving up your time, you will be exposed to a variety of different tasks and activities and will get insight into how an HR team works and an understanding of all aspects of the employee lifecycle. You will also have the satisfaction that you are helping make the work of Freedom from Torture possible.

Our volunteers are asked to give us regular commitment; we require someone who can work a minimum of 1 day per week, but ideally more, with a commitment of at least 6 months initially Please include your availability to work in your supporting statement.
