A leading health charity based in central London is seeking a Head of Finance & IT for a newly created role. This represents a chance to work for a highly flexible charity, and one where you will have a great deal of influence in shaping the team and processes.

Duties involved:

-Contribute effectively to the strategic direction of the charity and support its implementation and delivery ensuring that the needs and best interests of the beneficiaries are understood and met

-Take the lead in providing accurate and appropriate financial advice and data to enable effective decision making

-Ensure the timely preparation of the organisation’s budget, providing appropriate challenge to budget holders to ensure their figures are as robust as possible

-Provide timely and accurate regular management accounts, liaising with budget holders to investigate and understand the rationale for any variances and to take any necessary actions

-Work with external consultants, auditors, and pension’s advisers etc, to ensure the organisation complies with relevant financial statutory obligations. 

-Job involves on-going responsibility for reviewing policy, procedures and operational matters and making recommendations for change

-Management of a small team of finance staff


-Qualified Accountant – ACA / CIMA / ACCA

-Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an accountancy role and preferably with some senior management experience.  Experience of working within a charity would be desirable but not essential though an understanding of the financial regulations and statutory requirements relating to charities is essential.

-Experience of managing IT across an organisation would be desirable but not essential though an understanding of how IT systems work, some previous experience of working on IT strategy and an up to date knowledge of development in IT is essential.

-Experience of managing other people and the ability to lead and develop individuals and teams.   

-Ensure that all financial accounting, monitoring and reporting systems operate effectively, including procedures for all financial transactions, handling receipts, payments, cash flow, salaries, pensions etc

-Work with the outsourced IT specialists to deliver an effective IT strategy across the organisation’s offices and for its remote workers
