A small, but highly influential NGO headquartered in central London is seeking a Head of Finance & Corporate Services for a new role. This represents a chance to join an organisation with a real focus on technology. The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant, have prior experience in the NGO sector, and have a good grounding in HR policies and processes.
The role will involve:
-Reporting directly to the CEO, providing both operational and strategic leadership of the charity’s finance and corporate service functions (legal, HR, admin, IT)
-As a member of the executive management team, contribute to the development and oversight of implementation of organisational strategies and policies
-Setting the annual budget (including cash flow), monitoring/reporting progress against it and managing the forecasting process
-Leading on preparing management accounts (including balance sheets and income and expenditure reviews), cash flow forecasts and post adjustments as required;
-Preparation of annual accounts, production of the statutory accounts and management of audit
-Keeping financial records and performing financial procedures (receipts, payments, petty cash, payroll).
-Leading on selecting and the process of transitioning to a new accounting software
-Managing financial aspects of donor contracts, involving the understanding and negotiation of appropriate terms in new proposals
-Working with project managers to develop their financial understanding and ownership of budgets
-Oversee the HR function to ensure good employer practices and compliance with relevant legislation. This includes management of relationship with external HR service provider
-Manage internal IT and service providers
-Leading on risk management including Risk Register development and maintenance
-Occasional international travel will be required.
-Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
-Knowledge of SORP/SOFA, charitable finance regulations and key strategic finance reporting
-Previous experience of running a small finance function including payroll, PAYE, NIC, VAT, Payments, banking arrangements, accounts preparation and audit and other accounting transactions, adhering to proper controls and processes
-Significant demonstrated experience of preparation of management and annual accounts, business analysis and management information and the development, maintenance and monitoring of management information systems and procedures
-Demonstrated experience and understanding of P&L and Cash Flow Analysis as well as reporting, trend analysis and forecasting
-Knowledge of the international development sector
-Exposure to HR systems and processes, and overseeing an IT function strongly desirable
-Ability to build relationships with and influence a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, and the ability to successfully lead and motivate a team
