Purpose of the role

To support our Sporting Chance project in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Working closely with our partners, funders and beneficiaries (our service users). Sporting Chance RCT is supported by the Welsh Government's Healthy and Active Fund, managed by Volunteering Matters and will run in partnership with Be Active RCT.

This volunteering role requires flexibility and understanding and commitment to our organisational values.

The key purpose of the volunteering role is to assist in the organization and running of 'Sporting Chance' groups bringing together socially isolated older men to enjoy an active life. Maybe you have a skill that you could share with others, or just want to get involved in something fun and rewarding. Activities we have run in the past include walking, cycling, healthy cooking, gardening, football, indoor kurling, boccia and boardgames. Responsibilities and duties may include helping to run sessions, meeting and greeting new participants, making refreshments, helping to market the programme or acting as a "buddy" to assist participants who would otherwise not be able to get to sessions.

The post holder will be supported and supervised by a volunteering manager or project manager.

Key Duties: -

  1. Supporting the Volunteer Manager in running sessions
  2. Meeting and greeting new participants
  3. Making refreshments
  4. Helping to market the programme
  5. Acting as a "buddy"

Key attributes:

  1. Commitment to attend regularly one or more Sporting Chance groups
  2. May need a criminal record check (DBS)
  3. Interest or experience with working with older men
  4. Potential interest in reminiscence
  5. Able to provide two references

The role description is intended to include the broad range of responsibilities and requirements of the volunteering post. As our services are changing all of the time there will be regular opportunities for you to change the nature of your volunteering or change to supporting other services in our area to help you have a good experience while you are volunteering with us.
