Role Description:

This Role Description outlines the position for an intern to support the Anza grants team in their fundraising efforts. We are a small but dynamic and fast-moving team who are looking for a passionate and highly motivated team member to assist with research and completing grant applications.

About Anza:              Big Vision  Every low and middle income family in Tanzania has the opportunity to improve their livelihoods through the access to appropriate products and services provided by a network of social businesses.

Core Purpose  To start and scale social businesses based on the identified needs of the Kilimanjaro Region in Tanzania. We do this in three ways: (1) incubate in-house Anza businesses; (2) support local entrepreneurs and ideas; (3) bring proven social business models into the region

Role Title:                  Grants Editor & Writer

Location:                    Remote working

Accountable to:       Grants Manager

Hours:                         Part Time work capable of being conducted from home.

Salary:                         Voluntary

Expenses:                  Any reasonable expenses incurred will be repaid on a monthly basis following submission of an expenses report and respective receipts


Duration:                     A 3-6 month period with the option for extending the position and renegotiating position and terms. Particularly the option of further development within our Tanzanian projects can be expected.

Personal Specification:


  • Excellent online research skills
  • Excellent written, and oral communication skills, able to communicate to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to manage own workload and meet deadlines – highly organized
  • Willingness to work with limited resources
  • Hard working and dedicated
  • Empathy and high commitment to Anza’s mission and organizational values


  • Experience working for an NGO is desirable, but not mandatory
  • Fundraising Experience

About the role

You will work closely with other members of Anza’s grants team to support the organization’s fundraising efforts. This will include database research on trusts and foundations, reaching out to other NGO’s for information, mapping influential individuals, and completing grant applications using Anza’s text collection.

The nature of this role will give the incumbent the opportunity to cross over into other areas of the organization in order to not only meet organizational goals, but to also enable the successful applicant to gain valuable experience in different areas such as:
