Jinja DEAF (Deaf Education Access Fund) is a charity supporting the education of deaf children and young people in Jinja District, Uganda.
We promote equal access to education and employment with a focus on quality sign-bilingual education and promote activities which foster understanding and inclusion within their families and communities.
Our activities include funding full-time specialist sponsored workers in schools, providing grants for learning materials and sponsoring sign language and inclusion workshops for parents and educators.
For these young people, this support means the difference between gaining an education, fluent communication, opportunities and social relationships, and staying home in isolation, devalued and without language or hope for change.
About the Role
We are looking to recruit a trustee who can lead on fundraising efforts, alongside another existing newly-appointed fundraising trustee. This means thinking of ideas of how to spread the word and build our supporter base. This could mean managing digital and physical events, coordinating fundraising communications and researching proposals to a range of funders. We are currently developing our fundraising strategy and Any ideas to help secure a sustainable future for the charity are welcome!
Alongside the rest of the board, the fundraising trustee is a participant in all trustee discussions and decisions.
Our board of trustees meet three times per year (usually in North London but currently via Zoom) and communicate by email in the interim. We steer administrative decisions and closely monitor activities and spending to ensure responsible scrutiny of funds. All trustees are volunteers and we have no office so all money raised by our generous supporters is directed to our activities.
