A leading health based NGO is seeking a new Finance Director for a highly important role for the organisation. The role represents a chance to work for an organisation formed only 15 years ago but now recognised as one of the leading charities in their field.

The role sits on the SMT and will be managing a large team of around 12 people.

The role will involve:

-As a partner to the Chief Executive (CE) and GMG, assess organisational performance against both the annual budget and long-term strategy

-Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the CE and GMG and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations

-Engage the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee of the Board around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model(s) and operational delivery

-Assist in establishing yearly objectives and meeting agendas, and selecting and engaging outside consultants (auditors, advisors)

-Oversee long-term budgetary planning and costs management in alignment with the strategic plan, especially as the organisation considers sponsorships and collaborations with external organisations

-Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, regulatory requirements, and Companies House/Charity Commission audit requirements.

-Maintain internal control safeguards and coordinate all audit activities

-Prepare papers for and attend the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee and main Trustee board meetings

-Make recommendations to the CE and the Board on the selection and procurement specialised IT systems that meet the needs of the organisation

-Manage cash flow and forecasting. Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs. Optimise the handling of banking relationship and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash positions

-Oversee overall budgeting and forecasting and monitor the implementation of budgets so as to assess progress and present budget reports both internally and externally

-Responsibility for managing the IT function with the IT Manager


-Fully qualified member of one of the UK accounting bodies (ACA, CIMA or CIPFA)

-Seasoned and mature leader with at least 12-15 years of broad finance experience including the gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership

-Managing the finance function (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting) within a diverse disciplinary and technical organisation, with experience of international and cross-border working

-Mature and proactive, with evidence of having worked as a partner to the CE of a multidivisional organisation

-Understanding of living and working overseas and in developing environments

-Past experience successfully working with operational staff to manage critical financial management IT systems
