Family Engagement Worker
£35,000 per annum
Permanent, Full Time
TPP are working in partnership with a leading sight loss charity, who have a mission to change the lives of every single blind child and to make sure they have the self-belief and skills to fulfil their potential in life. Being a very established charity, they have an exciting and ambitious strategy to help 11,000 blind and partially sighted children and young people in England and Wales by 2020.
They are seeking a Family Engagement Worker in the London area to support families with vision impaired children to have improved wellbeing and resilience and develop positive parenting and coping strategies.
Reporting to the Community Services & Partnerships Director, you will be given the opportunity to establish and maintain a caseload of families with vision impaired children aged 0 to 25 who identify themselves as being in need of support. You will undertake family assessments to identify specific areas of need, and to provide therapeutic interventions for families that will promote children's development and emotional wellbeing.
Being an excellent communicator, you will be expected to liaise and develop relationships with local hospitals who provide paediatric ophthalmology as well as making referrals to local teams (Sensory, Education VI teams, Social Care, CAHMS). It is essential that contact with families is maintained as required and agreed with each family through home visits, telephone, email or skype. Family visits in their own homes may involve evening and weekend visits, at times convenient to each family so flexibility is a must.
The charity will particularly be looking for individuals who have sound knowledge and understanding of vision impairment, and its implications and impact. The successful applicant will be educated to at least degree level with a 1stdegree with a 2:1 grade in a subject related to a relevant field of psychology, social science, education or health, and have the ability to establish a therapeutic relationship with families and CYP demonstrated by qualification that provides eligibility for BACP membership.
If you have in-depth knowledge of applying family systems theory, and experience of using non-directive therapeutic interventions with families who are affected by vision impairment, please send your CV to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you would like more information about this role, please contact TPP Health & Social Care (020) 7 198 6070.
All applicants must be eligible to work in the UK and will require an Enhanced DBS.
