TPP are working in partnership with a leading sight loss charity, who have a mission to change the lives of every single blind child and to make sure they have the self-belief and skills to fulfil their potential in life. Being a very established charity, they have an exciting and ambitious strategy to help 11,000 blind and partially sighted children and young people in England and Wales by 2020.
They are seeking a Family Engagement Worker in the London area to support families with vision impaired children to have improved wellbeing and resilience and develop positive parenting and coping strategies.
You will be given the opportunity to establish and maintain a caseload of families with vision impaired children aged 0 to 25 who identify themselves as being in need of support. You will undertake family assessments to identify specific areas of need, and to provide therapeutic interventions for families that will promote children's development and emotional wellbeing.
Being an excellent communicator, you will be expected to liaise and develop relationships with local hospitals who provide paediatric ophthalmology as well as making referrals to local teams (Sensory, Education VI teams, Social Care, CAHMS). It is essential that contact with families is maintained as required and agreed with each family through home visits, telephone, email or skype.
The charity will particularly be looking for individuals who have sound knowledge and understanding of vision impairment, and its implications and impact. The successful applicant will be educated to degree level with a in a subject related to a relevant field of psychology, social science, education or health, and have the ability to establish a therapeutic relationship with families and CYP demonstrated by qualification that provides eligibility for BACP membership.
