TPP are pleased to be partnering with the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) to recruit an exciting role as a Development Manager. The role will be based at CAMRA headquarters in St Albans and will involve leading on in-house programming projects in Java / PHP and other languages, and managing external vendors and coordinating 3rd party activities. You will be joining a fantastic organisation and will have the chance to get involved in some cutting edge development projects. The successful candidate will be driven, with strong hands-on development skills, with the ability to manage a small team and external parties.
CAMRA is a not-for-profit consumer group with nearly 180,000 members that has been operating since 1971. Their vision is to have quality real ale and thriving pubs in every community. They are a volunteer-led organisation, with a small, enthusiastic and committed staff team of almost 50 people. CAMRA is independent and their objectives are wholly membership driven. All proceeds are put back into achieving their campaigning objectives and they have no commercial interests.
Duties in the role will include:
-Lead and manage the systems development function, providing ‘hands-on’ software design, build, test, release management and deployment services using both internal and external resources
-50% of the role will involve the coordination of external resources, developers and contractors to run development projects via JIRA
-50% of the role will involve in house programming /development in Java and PHP – a mixture of back-end and front-end projects
-Develop software for websites, mobile apps, APIs and related systems
-Manage and mentor an in-house Web Developer
-Provide development effort in support of BAU Change to operational systems
-Review code for future maintainability
-Manage a carefully controlled software-release process to maintain the integrity of operational systems and ensure that new functionality adheres to project specification
-Contribute to project planning cycles
Requirements for this role:
-Previous software development experience with PHP and/or Java platforms
-Experience in workflow tools (ideally JIRA) and coding frameworks (ideally Laravel)
-Staff management experience or clear evidence of leading on development projects
-Experience managing 3rd party/external vendor relationships
-The ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment with multiple projects on at any given time
-An interest in Real Ale and Beer is an advantage!
