Never volunteered for the CIPD before?
A fantastic opportunity exists for suitably experienced professionals to join Investigations and Conduct pools supporting the application of the Code of
Professional Conduct and the professional standards of the Institute.

The Code of Professional Conduct applies to all CIPD members and is supported by Investigation and Conduct Procedures.
- A group of appropriately trained members of the Institute form a pool from which Investigation Panels may be appointed. Experienced in conducting investigations and writing investigation reports, these practicing human resource professionals will collect and evaluate evidence to establish if the CIPD should determine if a breach of the Code has occurred. Depending on the volume and complexity of investigations we are estimating that pool members will be called upon 1-3 times per year, involving 2-5 days of remote working.
- Conduct Panels are drawn from a pool of volunteer CIPD members and non-members with experience of participating in comparable hearings (e.g. employment tribunals, civil or criminal court hearings, magistrate’s courts, arbitration panels). Conduct Panel members will hear evidence and decide whether to uphold or dismiss alleged breaches of the Code. If a breach is found the Panel will consider publication of details of the case and have the ability to exercise a range of sanctions. Preparation for hearings may take 1-2 days. It is anticipated that you will be called upon to support 1-3 hearings per year, probably lasting one day.
This is an opportunity to develop your skills, network with HR professionals and lay members and to make an important contribution.
Volunteers are required to attend induction training and at least one day annual training each year, have access to and the ability to use the internet and email and be proficient in writing reports and decisions. Both roles are unpaid, reasonable travel expenses will be paid in accordance to a volunteer agreement and the tenure is for one year, renewable for two.
