About the charity
Family Fund is the UK's largest charity providing essential grant support and information to families raising disabled or seriously ill children and young people. Last year they provided 88,119 grants and services worth over £33 million to low income families across the UK last year. Based in York, they have for 44 years worked to improve the wellbeing of disabled, or seriously ill children, young people and their families. Family Fund believes that all families raising disabled and seriously ill children and young people should have the same opportunities as others and their grants and services help break down many of the barriers families face, improving their quality of life and easing the additional daily pressures.
About the role
Due to the current Chair reaching the end of his second term, Family Fund are looking to appoint an exceptional individual who will bring passion and commitment, as well as skills and experience to the Board. The Chair will hold the Board and Executive Team to account for the Charity's mission and vision, providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity. The Chair will also support, and where appropriate, challenge the Chief Executive and ensure that the Board and Executive work collaboratively to achieve agreed objectives and aims of the charity. He or she will join the Chief Executive and Trustees as an ambassador of the charity and its trading subsidiary.
With considerable experience of operating at a strategic leadership level, you will also have Board level experience and knowledge of charity governance. Above all, you must demonstrate a strong and visible passion for the cause. Family Fund particularly welcome applicants who have a working or personal experience of caring for a disabled or seriously ill child or young person.
