Chair of the Board of Trustees

Chair of the Board of Trustees

Are you our new Chair that supports, empowers and inspires young people?

Do you have skills and enthusiasm to cooperatively govern and bring our strategy into action?

You could be the next Chair of Berkshire Youth, the leading charity for young people in Berkshire, and help us enhance our work on their behalf.

About us:

We have been empowering and inspiring young people in Berkshire for over 80 years, helping with transition from childhood to young adulthood, supporting young people to reach their full potential and make a positive contribution to their communities. Berkshire Youth is the only organisation in the Royal County that continues work across the county to advocate the case for all young people.

Our longstanding Chair is retiring and we are looking for a new Chair who has the drive and commitment to inspire. You will take the lead in arguing the case for young people, ensuring that the resources to enable Berkshire Youth exist, to turn our mission into action.

You would be Chair-designate for approx. three months, then fully take on the Chair's role. We have a diverse Board of trustees, currently eight, some recently-appointed, others more longstanding, including those with commercial and corporate backgrounds, some with long associations with youth movements, some newer to our mission.

With a turnover of £670k in 2020, an increase on previous years, we have substantial development plans, much needed to help young people: those most affected by the pandemic and its future consequences.

About the role:

We're looking for someone to lead our Board, to work with other trustees and our Chief Executive to shape our future supporting young people.

This is a high-profile appointment, with strong commitment to the future of young people an essential quality, plus an understanding of the value of youth work.

Similarly, a good grasp of the local political and funding environment is important, experience of committee or similar work, and a strong focus to cooperatively shape the stable and forward-looking Board also part of the qualities we are looking for.

How to apply

This appointment is being managed for us by inVOLve Community Services, a charity-support organisation, who offer a no-obligation discussion by phone or video. A detailed Recruitment Pack can be made available to you upon request.
