LOCSU (Local Optical Committee Support Unit) are the key link between national professional optic bodies in England working to improve eye services in their regions. They use their clinical expertise to develop community/enhanced service pathways for particular eye health problems such as Glaucoma and Cataracts and run regional training events to make sure that members are informed and equipped to negotiate with their local health commissioners in England.

The Chair will lead the board to determine the strategy and monitor the achievement of the organisation's objectives. They will be an ambassador for LOCSU, acting as a spokesperson where appropriate and representing LOCSU at external meetings, functions and events. The Chair will board meetings effectively and efficiently, bringing impartiality and objectivity to the decision-making process as well as ensuring board members are fully committed. They will also carry out appraisals of the board and the Chief Operating Officer.

You will have experience of operating at a senior strategic leadership level along with experience of external representation and managing various stakeholders. You will ideally have a track record in securing partnerships, investment and other support to deliver against organisational strategy. Along with experience or a strong interest in the health sector, you will have organisation governance experience and significant chairing experience.
