Branch Trustee - Marketing/Social Media Specialism

Branch Trustee - Marketing/Social Media Specialism

About the opportunity

We are the RSPCA and it's our vision to live in a world where all animals are respected and treated with compassion. Our volunteers are incredible, they play an essential role in helping us carry out our important animal welfare work every day.

Do you have professional expertise you could use to help a good cause? Are you passionate about animal welfare? Trustees manage the affairs of a local RSPCA Branch to promote and provide animal welfare within the branch area. We are looking for new trustees to join the RSPCA Croydon, Crystal Palace & District Branch and are particularly looking for a candidate who has a background in social media and marketing. As a local Branch we would ideally be looking for candidates who are local to the Branch area (primarily Croydon and Crystal Palace), although applications from further afield will be considered, for the right candidate.

Specialist Role:

  • Lead on assisting the Branch in generating and developing a social media strategy to maximise the Branch's ability to promote animal welfare, boost rehoming campaigns, maximise fundraising opportunities and to engage with local supporters.
  • To support the Branch Manager in using social media effectively and working within the social media strategy.
  • To support the Branch in ensuring any social media or marketing content is in line with RSPCA brand guidelines (which will be made available to the successful candidate).
  • To be responsible for feeding back key insights and performance markers to the rest of the committee at board meetings.
  • To support the Branch in promoting animal welfare campaigns and events through the use of digital media. An ability to develop original content to promote the Branch's work would be welcomed.
  • An interest in photography and graphic design in order to promote the Branch animals for rehoming, Branch events and work would also be welcomed but is not essential for the role.

Core Trustee Role:

  • To be familiar with the branch rules and follow them at all times.
  • To be familiar with and support the aims and policies of the RSPCA.
  • To work in conjunction with your fellow trustees and branch officers and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA.
  • Ensure the branch meets all the minimum animal welfare standards (MAWS). Where they are not met, work with national RSPCA staff to meet the standard as soon as practicable.
  • In conjunction with your fellow trustees and Branch Support Specialist write, adopt, monitor & review a branch development plan setting out the short and long term aims of your branch.
  • To actively participate in branch committee meetings and to attend the branch annual general meeting and regional conference.
  • To be aware of the outcome of regional board meetings and support regional initiatives.
  • To attend the trustee training course.
  • To actively promote and advertise the society in an ongoing programme to recruit new branch trustees and volunteers.
  • To welcome and assist the integration of new trustees and volunteers.
  • Where applicable and in conjunction with your fellow trustees, ensure the proper management and control of all activities and decisions relating to any premises held or staff employed by the branch.
  • To act at all times as a good ambassador for the branch and the society.

What are we looking for?

  • Most people aged 18 or over are eligible to become a trustee and you will need to become a member of the RSPCA. You will need to be able to work with people and have good interpersonal skills. You do not need to be an expert although commitment, common sense and the ability to be objective is vital.
  • RSPCA Croydon and Crystal Palace encourage people from any background to apply for any of its current vacancies.
  • We are committed to creating a Board which is representative of our society and in particular the community of Croydon and Crystal Palace bringing together those with a variety of skills and experiences, to help shape what we do and how we work. We are particularly keen to hear from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates.
  • Trustees must sign a Trustee Declaration of Willingness to Act to clarify that they are not disqualified from being a trustee and that they accept the post.
  • As of 1st August 2018 in addition to our standard declaration of willingness, trustees also need to complete the new declaration from the Charity Commission and read their guidance for individuals on who can't be a trustee or senior manager of a charity.

Practical Considerations

As a minimum, trustees would normally be expected to attend a monthly committee meeting lasting some 2 to 3 hours. However, this role will exceed this commitment as there will be additional duties to be carried out in between meetings.

Trustees are elected for a 12 month term each year.
