The Fifth Trust has provided vocational training and life skills for adults with learning disabilities for 28 years. We work with more than 140 students each week and, as a best practice provider, put our students at the heart of everything we do. Based at two sites near Barham in the Elham Valley in East Kent, we have an annual turnover of £1.2m.
Due to retirement, the Trust is now looking to recruit a new Chair as well as some additional trustees to widen our skills and experience base.
The successful applicant will provide leadership to the board of trustees and provide support to the General Manager and staff team. He or she will be able to ensure that the trustees, managers, employees and volunteers adhere to and maintain the policies, procedures and ethos of the Fifth Trust. Understanding of and sympathy with the aims of the Trust are essential as is previous experience of a leadership role, preferably in the business and/or charity sector.
The successful applicants will work with other trustees to set and oversee the Trust's strategy and priorities, provide support and challenge to the Management team in carrying out the work of the Trust, ensuring the delivery of public benefit. Understanding of and sympathy with the aims of the Trust are essential. We are looking in particular for new trustees who have skills in marketing or business development, or can assist in fundraising.
Before appointment you will be required to meet the requirements of various safeguarding checks. Once appointed you will be expected to attend quarterly Trustee Meetings including the AGM and annual Budget Approval Meetings. You will also be able to make yourself available from 4 to 8 days a year offering support and advice within your determined skill and experience area(s) (as detailed in the job description). Appointments, which are unpaid, are for a 3 year term, renewable once.
