Muslim Aid is a well-respected international charity which started work in 1985 with a British Muslim community response to the drought in the Horn of Africa. Now with an income of £30 million, 1,400 employees and almost 3000 volunteers, they support 8 million beneficiaries worldwide. Muslim Aid makes a huge impact in bringing justice and restoring dignity to people who are victims of natural disasters, conflict and suffering. The ethos of Muslim Aid is rooted in a belief that providing relief and aid to others is central to one’s humanity. This can, and is, performed by those of all faiths and none.

Following an inquiry by the Charity Commission into the governance and administration of the charity, a new constitution will be put in place and Muslim Aid will shortly be incorporated as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). The CIO will in due course take over the assets, responsibilities and liabilities of Muslim Aid with a view to developing the charity in its work for humanity.

These are clearly stimulating and unique opportunities which require a set of driven and high calibre Trustees who empathise with the mission of Muslim Aid. Skills and experience required include humanitarian aid and international development, policy capability, finance, compliance and risk management, fundraising & communications, legal, IT and human resource management. Candidates should have a good understanding of contemporary charitable activity in the UK and internationally and be in tune with leading a Muslim international humanitarian and development organisation.
