10.00am until 11.00am
As part of our commitment to giving back to the organisations we work with, TPP Recruitment will be hosting our next event in a series of FREE virtual webinars on diversity and inclusion hosted by industry experts on a wide variety of current topics to provide you with new ideas around best practice. Our next webinar is on Contemporary understandings of gender, equality & intersectionality. We welcome back our guest speaker for this event, Professor Patricia MacCormack.
Date: 24th November
Time: 10am -11am
Gender is a complex concept but one crucial to understand in moving toward full inclusivity. Gender is a protected characteristic as is gender reassignment, and both have intersectional relationships with race, ability and sexuality (LGBTQ) status. Gender is a combination of social, developmental, and performative characteristics - that is, we perform our gender based on the society in which we are raised. Femininity and Masculinity are characteristics at ends of a spectrum. This session will introduce different understandings of gender, the roles we play and the purpose of those roles. It will also make recommendations for how this understanding can create better policy and action for inclusivity and dealing with harassment.
Our guest speaker
Patricia MacCormack, Professor of Continental Philosophy at ARU, Cambridge.
We welcome back Patricia, who has been lecturing and publishing in the areas of gender, sexuality, race and diversity for 25 years and is the author of 7 books, numerous articles and the recipient of a number of international grants and awards. She has consulted for government, charitable and academic sector companies.
