Royal Trinity Hospice provides services for people who are living with long term and life-limiting conditions, including their families and carers. We offer care, support and advice to help improve wellbeing and confidence and through this to help people cope better with the changes happening in their lives.

Our new Macmillan Wellbeing Service offers a range of activities, peer support groups and information to patients, their families and carers. However many patients find it difficult to get in to Trinity to attend sessions – that’s where our volunteer drivers come in. Volunteers pick up patients living in the community and bring them in for their Macmillan Wellbeing sessions.

Key responsibilities

  • Driving patients to and from Royal Trinity in your own vehicle.
  • Being a welcoming, friendly and reliable travel companion for patients.
  • Observing confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Feeding back relevant information or concerns from patients to the Transport Coordinator.

Skills and competencies

  • Full driving licence with a minimum of 2 years driving and no endorsements
  • Excellent inter-personal skills
  • Well organised, enthusiastic and self-motivated
  • Able to work independently and as part of  a team
  • Trustworthy and reliable
  • Understanding of the boundaries within the role of a volunteer

What this role can offer you

  • You will be making an important contribution to Royal Trinity Hospice and to the thousands of people who use our services
  • The opportunity to develop your existing skills and learn new skills
  • You will receive an induction and on-going training
  • We offer to reimburse fuel expenses (at 45p per mile) and congestion charges if you have to enter central London

Other information

This role will require a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, which will be of no cost to the volunteer. Having a criminal record will not necessarily prevent you from undertaking volunteering with Royal Trinity.

All volunteers receive a Volunteer Handbook which sets out Trinity’s relationship and way of working with volunteers. This includes key policies and procedures.
