|Job Title||Volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager - Torbay, Devon - EXPIRED|
|Job Published||31 Mar 2015|
|Contact Name||Volunteers team|
Search and rescue bosses at the charity want to hear from anyone in the community in Torbay who would be interested in volunteering for the role of Lifeboat Operations Manager (LOM).
Often referred to in its abbreviated form, the LOM's position is a hugely important one, as they have the primary responsibility for deciding when lifeboats should be launched to emergencies at sea. In addition, the LOM has the overall responsibility for the general running of the lifeboat station, recruiting and managing the volunteer crew members and a team of non-seagoing shore helpers that make rescues possible.
The RNLI wants to hear from anyone locally who has knowledge and interest in boats and the sea. We're looking for someone who has maritime experience as clearly managing a lifeboat and her crew requires some degree of time spent at sea, be it for work or pleasure.
Given the nature of life-boating - in that the pager can go off at any time of the day or night - there is often an element of unsociable hours. When you're available to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week, that's part of the deal. But our existing LOMs certainly testify that you get out what you put in!
