User Involvement Advocate
Temporary Cover (30 hours a week)

TPP's client, a leading mental health advocacy charity is looking for a User Involvement Advocate to work in their offices in North London.
As a non-profit organisation, the aims and goals of our client are always centred on engaging with vulnerable groups to further their interests; providing a range of support to clientele that include people with mental health issues and a history of substance misuse. The role of this organisation is to provide advocacy and support for these people, delivering counsel and guidance for those in need and supporting and pushing for the rights of such groups. The work involves a strong understanding of legal rights but also includes a community aspect.
The job of User Involvement Advocate will involve working directly with the aforementioned groups to help strengthen their voice and improve services. You will be expected to reach wide within the community to consult on lived experience, recruit volunteers and support peer to peer initiatives. Additionally, the role will involve an element of research, working with partner agencies across North London to ensure the needs and wants of the user group are implemented in the service provided. This job is to be utilised as temporary cover and the initial contract is likely to run for around two months.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of one year working with people to ensure their rights are heard as well as experience working in the charity or voluntary sector; this should include work with vulnerable adults or children. Knowledge of user involvement and its role within health and social care services is essential as is an understanding of current policy and practice surrounding mental health and substance misuse services. The candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to be both assertive and diplomatic in their outlook. Due to the nature of the work enthusiasm for the charity sector is required while lived experience of substance misuse or mental health issues would be desirable but not essential.
