RLSB is looking for volunteers to support their Community Support Workers on social outings for visual impaired teenagers and young adults. The role is to provide 1:1 guiding or general group supervision whilst out in the community, and encourage and facilitate communication and social interaction between group members.
RLSB runs a specialist nursery, school and college from our educational campus in Sevenoaks. We also run an Adult Support Services from Central London. This service consists of a Community and Transition Service and an Employment Support Service. The Employment Support Service is committed to supporting all London based blind and partially sighted people, whatever their circumstances on their journey toward securing paid work. The RLSB Community and Transition Service provides information, advice and guidance to help blind and partially sighted people overcome overcome obstacles associated with being visually impaired and improve the quality of their lives.
When Required: Mon - Fri PM
Commitment: Part Time
You will need the following skills and abilities;
- to commit to volunteer at least 1 day per month, in the daytime during school holidays, or at weekends
- good communication skills
- an interest in supporting the needs of blind and partially sighted people
- to be reliable, punctual and committed to RLSB's projects
- to be responsible and able to maintain professional boundaries
- to be supportive in dealing with challenging behaviours, under the directions of the group leader
Full sighted guide and safeguarding training will be provided.
