Job Description - EXPIRED

Do you believe in the power of volunteering?

Expand your skills and experience as Finance Manager of a youth-focussed, education-based, entirely voluntary organization and support the development of young people in the UK and Africa.

Tenteleni is a youth driven, volunteer run charity that supports the development of young people in the UK and Africa in collaboration with local partners. We provide young people with international volunteering placements in schools and local organisation s in South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania for 8 weeks during the University summer period.

Working alongside national volunteers through our Volunteer Partnership Programme, Tenteleni volunteers work in educational placements as teaching assistants; assisting with English language learning and youth issues. Volunteers are also encouraged to facilitate and support extra-curricular activities for learners and
create links between local Non-Governmental Organisations and their placements.

This is an opportunity to gain real experience of how the finances of an organisation function. You will develop your management, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills which will not only broaden your horizons personally but assist you professionally with your next career move.

We are a vibrant, youth-focused organization, committed to the young people that work with and for it, and
this position offers an opportunity to contribute to its strategic direction. We are volunteer run and herefore everyone is driven by their passion and energy. As a youth-focused organisation we aim to recruit young people; the majority of our members are under 30 years old.

Role Description:

The Finance Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and strategic direction of the charity's finance to allow its charitable objectives run on a sustainable basis, reporting directly into the Board through the Finance Trustee and the Executive Director. You will receive ongoing support from both of these ontact points, and a suitable handover period. While a basic understanding of finances is helpful, organizational and computer skills are more important than financial experience.

The Finance Manager is also responsible for managing the Finance Officer, and expanding Finance Team, who works on specific finance projects involved within the running of the charity, for example the maintenance and analysis of the use of the site Virgin Money Giving (VMG).

We would particularly welcome applications from young people and students currently at university.

This is an unpaid, voluntary role. Necessary expenses incurred will be reimbursed. Willingness to travel to London or necessary location for Board meetings is essential and occasional travel to other cities for other meetings desirable.
