Job Description - EXPIRED

This respected university based in Surrey on the outskirts of London is recruiting for a Development Manager, Major Gifts to work within its small, creative, and dynamic Development, Alumni Relations and Events team. Since 2007, the organisation's development office has been delivering a highly successful annual giving programme, and this new role, Development Manager (Major Gifts), has been created as part of the university's strategy to increase income from philanthropic sources. The position is an exciting opportunity to join a growing fundraising team and make a real impact on the development of major gifts fundraising at the university.

The Development Manager will play an important role in the achievement of fundraising objectives, personally delivering an income line against identified funding priorities and working to agreed activity targets. The Development Manager will manage a mixed portfolio of prospective donors (including individuals, corporates and trusts), both personally soliciting gifts and setting up solicitation opportunities for others where appropriate.

The Person

- You will be a target driven professional with previous experience of working in a development or fundraising environment
- You will have the ability to deal with a varied portfolio and to learn new skills, while building relationships with a wide range of academics, alumni and donors, often at the highest level
- You will be an excellent communicator with the confidence and awareness to deal with high profile individuals
- Excellent planning and organisational skills and a high standard of personal and work presentation is essential
- Ideally you will have previous experience of making face to face fundraising asks as well as experience fundraising from trusts and foundations or corporates

The Department

The university has extensive industry links, a number of world-class schools and a strong entrepreneurial ethos, topping the league tables for the number of graduate start-ups for the last five years. In addition to this, the university has one of the most diverse student bodies of any UK university, running a number of highly successful outreach and support programmes targeting disadvantaged young people and currently educates more local authority care leavers than any other UK university.

The University is investing in its capacity to raise major gifts in support of University priorities. The successful individual will have input into the fundraising strategy in this exciting new area of work.

This role comes with an excellent benefits package including 35 days annual leave (excluding bank holidays) and a final salary pension scheme.
