CRB Advice
TPP and the Criminal Records Bureau
The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) is the executive agency of the Home Office. Obtaining a CRB clearance enables us to place candidates in particular roles within the NHS, Medical and Public sector. Having a CRB check is a necessity for our candidates owing to the nature of some of the work and the environments you maybe working in.
TPP are registered with the CRB to use its disclosure services and we are committed to doing this sensitively, appropriately and legally. TPP are committed to complying with the CRB Codes of Practice on using disclosure services and on handling sensitive disclosure information.
What is a Disclosure?
The Criminal Records Bureau provides wider access to criminal records information through its Disclosure service. This service enables organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors to make safer recruitment decisions by identifying candidates who may be unsuitable for certain work, especially where it involves working with or around children or vulnerable adults. The CRB was established under Part V of the Police Act 1997 and was launched in March 2002, you can find out more on
www.crb.gov.uk
.
Can I refuse to apply for a Disclosure?
Yes, but this will limit the chance of finding work through TPP as the majority of our clients insist on clearance before we place temps on assignment. Specifically within the Health and Social Care Sectors we have more clients than not who ask for this requirement; therefore having a CRB clearance can increase the chances of work.
What if I already have a Disclosure?
Unfortunately Disclosures are no longer portable, this means that they have to be organisation specific and can not be transferred from one employer to another. There are no exceptions to this rule.
What if I live or have lived overseas?
Generally you will have to apply to the CRB for an Enhanced Disclosure even if you have lived overseas prior to joining our agency; we may also ask you for an equivalent document from the relevant overseas authorities.
How do I get my disclosure?
Once we have received payment, TPP will process the application for you just as long as you provide all the documentation and information required.
We will take copies of these documents at your registration. You will then receive an email asking you to confirm which documents you have provided as proof.
CRB applications are processed through Atlantic Data, and normally take between 2 and 4 weeks. The completed CRB will then be sent straight to you.
What if I have a criminal record?
Having a criminal conviction will not necessarily prevent you from being put forward for bookings through TPP. We will investigate the nature of any declared or disclosed convictions in order to:
Ensure the safety and well-being of the staff and patients
Ensure the security of the clients property
Protect TPP and our clients reputation and public standing
Carry out our legal responsibilities and duties
Any decisions will be taken in the light of a risk assessment against these criteria.
