All not for profit organisations will have a Board of Trustees, who are elected either on a remunerated or non-remunerated basis. TPP can source these individuals for charities and not for profit organisations including membership, arts and educational institutions. The amount of time a Chair or Trustee role takes up each month varies, although you can usually expect to give about two days a month.

Trustees usually have different responsibilities and will often have a focus, such as marketing or finance and will be actively involved in sub committee meetings relating to these areas.

Responsibilities & duties for Chairs & Trustees

A Chair will be responsible for chairing board and annual general meetings and committee meetings for the organisation. Working closely with the Chief Executive to ensure the annual and strategic plans are delivered; Chairs will ensure a good working relationship between the staff and Board of Trustees and agree agendas for board meetings and review minutes of the meetings. Chairs and Trustees will represent the views of the organisation externally, with other related organisations and the media.

Skills required for Chairs & Trustees

Chairs and Trustees must qualify legally as a Director of a company and have an understanding and commitment to the organisations vision, objectives and mission. They must appreciate and have an understanding of corporate governance procedures and practice with the ability to provide leadership, which can involve making difficult decisions. Chairs and Trustees must work effective as part of a team and think analytically and strategically.
